Hills of El Dorado
The town of El Dorado Hills is so named for its proximity to Northern California’s Gold Rush county. Planned as a master community in the 1960s, it subsequently became filled with neighborhood villages with names like Fairchild, Winterhaven, Bridlewood, Woodridge, Laurel Oaks.
And this evening in El Dorado Hills, in the quietude of a cul-de-sac, a teenage boy sits within his wood-paneled bedroom, the waning summer sunlight slanting in through the shades. The room is bathed in a reddish glow. He wonders if there is still gold somewhere in the earth beneath him, glinting dully in some dark cavern while his family sleeps. He wonders what there is still left to explore.
